President's Welcome
On behalf of the UNSW UN Society I would like to thank you for taking an interest in our Society as well as the work of the UN. Our principle goal is to promote a diplomatic culture on campus and to encourage the creation of strong communities animated by the ideals of the UN.
The UN Society has been an important part of university life at UNSW since 2002 when it was first founded. Since then the role of the Society has grown and evolved to meet the changing needs of the UNSW community and the changing nature of UN engagement with the grassroots.
Today the UN Society offers a wide range of member services for anyone interested in engaging with the principles and the work of the UN. Regardless of your academic background there are sure to be ways you can be involved with the activities of the Society.
As a member of the UN Society you will be part of a tradition of successful delegations to Model UN conferences in Australia and around the world. These are a great way to meet many new friends from all over the world and collaborate on big ideas for the future. We also offer a number of internal Model UN opportunities which are great ways to make new friends on campus as well as polish your diplomacy skills.
Throughout the year we host a number of speakers forums discussing important international issues and providing a dialogue between professionals in the field and UNSW students. In the past we have hosted the likes of Australia Human Rights Commissioner Catherine Branson and we hope to bring other high profile speakers to UNSW in the future.
The UN Society also engages in a number of activities aimed at enriching the academic and social environment on campus. To this end we run innovative programs such as the Diplomacy Program where participants can learn skills in international diplomacy through workshops. Finally, throughout the year we host a number of social events where members can meet each other as well as those that make the Society run behind the scenes.
At the UN Society we value every member and are proud of the strong community we have built over the years. We look forward to seeing you at one of our many future events and hope they inspire you with a new perspective on your time at UNSW and the impact you can make.
