Diplomacy Program

General information about the program:
1. The UN Society Diplomacy Program (UNSDP) is designed to give students interested in diplomacy, advocacy and Model UN a practical platform to practice and develop the necessary skills. MUN is a great vehicle for the practical application of classroom learning, networking and skills training for those interested in careers in the global arena.
2. The program will run for 4 weeks, with one session each week and approximately two hours per session. In each session different skills relevant to diplomacy and Model UN will be developed through a number of training materials and simulations. At the end of the program, participants will receives a certificate to recognize their achievement.
3. The program is a great opportunity for participants to grow their skills in the lead up to upcoming Model UN conferences in Australia and around the world. It also gives participants an avenue to become more involved in the UN Society and to be actively part of future UN Society Model UN delegations.
5. UNSDP is intended for participants of all skill levels and experience levels. There is also no cost for the program.

7. Model UN is an enjoyable and dynamic way to develop useful skills and to debate important world issues. It is also a great way to represent UNSW on the national and the world stage. Through the Diplomacy Program the UN Society hopes to give participants the chance to develop vital skills and to build a corps of confident and capable delegates for future Model UN conferences.
The week-by-week program outline:
Week 1: Introduction to Model UN, the Program and the relevant skills that will be developed. Introduction to the rules of procedure and their role in Model UN. Simulations and exercises will focus on nurturing diplomatic skills and a working understanding of how Model UN works.
Week 2: Develop critical research skills and other associated skills such as news gathering and finding a country's policy positions. Exercises and simulations will focus on how to find country policies and how they are framed and advanced.
Week 3: Practice and develop oral and written communication skills such as advocacy, public speaking and resolution writing. Simulations will focus on building confidence and effectiveness in oral and written communication.
Week 4: Consolidate and practice more advanced skills such as conflict resolution, negotiation, coalition building, inter-personal diplomacy skills and diplomatic strategy. Simulations will be run to practice complex diplomacy and conflict resolution skills.
