Ben Nicols, 2018 UNSOC President

Welcome to UNSoc! Whether you want to travel the world grappling with the big issues, give back to the community through our education portfolio, make new friends on campus at our internal events, or just learn more about the world, UNSoc’s the perfect place for you.

We’ve got a fantastic year planned and I’m extremely excited to see you all get involved. Once again, we’re sending teams to the World Model United Nations in Panama, and the National Model United Nations in New York. Later in the year, you’ll be able to join our award winning delegations to the Brisbane Model United Nations, National Capital Model United Nations, and Sydney Model United Nations, as well as next year’s World Model United Nations and National Model United Nations.

UNSoc is also super excited that the Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference (AMUNC) is back home at UNSW, where it was founded in 1995. AMUNC is going to be great, and give UNSoc members all the experiences of an international conference right on their doorsteps.

Also on campus, we’re going to be holding UNSW’s small, innovative, crisis competition MUNSW for the second time, as well as fortnightly mini-MUNs and a huge variety of other training, educational, and social events. Our Model United Nations in Schools program also continues this year, so you’ll also have the chance to make a positive impact on the wider community by working with high-school students to promote their skills and understanding of international issues.

All the events and programs UNSoc offers are an amazing opportunity for you to deepen your understanding of international issues, develop your personal and professional skills (like public speaking and negotiation), and make real connections with like minded people from around the world.

To get involved, this guide contains everything you need to know about UNSoc, but you should also follow us on social media and sign up as a member to stay up to date with the latest news, events and opportunities.

Whether you’ve never heard of Model United Nations before or you’re an old hack we can’t get rid of, I can’t encourage you enough to jump in and get involved.

Hope to meet you all soon,

Ben Nicols
